Welcome to the Eurolink 2011 blog. Eurolink 2011 will consist of a series of online and real-world workshops and discussions which will build on the success of Eurolink 2010
For a brief introduction to Eurolink 2011 in Deutscher Sprache, English, Français and ελληνικά please click here.
This blog has been created to enable DAIN Project partners, old and new, to share and discuss examples of innovative practice in digital inclusion work. This will act as the main platform to access all Eurolink 2011 workshops and activities.
A big thanks to so many people who joined our journey (virtually) by creating posts and commenting on other partner contributions.
In the first 10 days we had postings from:
UK
Germany
Mexico
Qatar
Ireland
Uruguary
We still welcome any response in the form of posts, comments, links to videos, presentations or whatever your preference.
If you have any questions of your own please add them below. We hope this will be a lively discussion and thank you in advance for your participation – welcome aboard!
Post Eurolink Actions
If you are not signed up and following our main blog http://dainproject.com (and why not?) we wish you a very belated happy New Year!
The DAIN Eurolink team have been busy action planning and developing work to apply some of the learning that emerged from the Eurolink 2011 process. We have just published our latest newsletter and a summary of our post study trip actions are contained here: DAIN Newsletter Winter 2012
Our post study trip work so far has included lots of planning and discussion in local team meetings, and two regional planning and review sessions in December 2011 and February 2012. We will keep you upto date with developments and how useful some of this learning has been to our Digital Activists and the communities in which they work via our main blog with key developments also posted here on the Eurolink blog.
If there are any actions that you are particularly interested in please let us know and we can explore ways to get you more actively involved. We will be holding an event on 17th March to celebrate some of this work, the achievements of our volunteers, and to share resources with our partners. If you would like to get involved in this event either virtually or in the real world, please let us know and we will make sure we do all we can to meet your needs.
PS: For those that missed the posting on our main blog in December, you can see the main documentary film summarising some of our Eurolink learning here. http://vimeo.com/33784652
Team B Study Trip Film Reports
Team B, made up of Neil and Bill, have been hard at work to finish their excellent film reports of their visit to a UCP centre in Brain L’alleud near Brussels, which can now be seen below. Our warm thanks goes again to all our colleagues at UCP for hosting this visit and sharing their resources and thoughts with us. We are looking forward to developing this partnership further with a particular focus on volunteer roles, resources and training.
Team B have also gone the extra mile as Neil has created an additional montage film ‘One Fine DAIN’ which gives a great overview and feel of broader study trip activities. As with Team A, Team B films are complemented by their blog posts which are well worth a read.
The A team Study Trip Film Reports
Team A, consisting of Digital Activists; Leigh, Matthew and Linda (DAIN volunteers), have completed their film reports which are now available to view as below. They have done a fantastic job of capturing some of the many interesting aspects of the diverse work of Interface 3, established to empower women to use computers and technology with the aim of securing paid work.
We have observed many interesting approaches and tools used to support this aim at Interface 3 and will be exploring further how to apply some of this learning within DAIN over the coming months. These film reports are also complemented by the A team blog posts which can be found here. Our thanks goes again to Interface 3 for their generous hospitality during our visit. Team B and C’s film reports on the partners and projects that they visited will follow shortly, along with details of our dissemination activities and Film Premier. This will include DA films and the study trip documentary which is currently being produced and which will be screened at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham in December.
Eurolink Day 2011
Eurolink Day 2011 took place in Nottingham, England and Namur, Belgium on 28th October. The day was full of stimulating debate and discussion on both sides of the Channel and in cyberspace. We hope to capture some of this here over the next few days and weeks, including the thoughts and reports of those who took part and how we plan to move forward. Please continue to contribute to this discussion, your comments to date have been invaluable.
Many thanks to all the participants who have observed or commented to date, and especially the Digital Activists and our new partners in Belgium, UCP. We are looking forward to developing this work further over the coming months and to trying out some of what we have observed and heard about online within a UK context.

Bags packed and on our way!
The DAIN Eurolink research team are about to set off to St Pancras for the first leg in their journey to identify and explore good practice in Digital Inclusion in Belgium. Volunteers have worked hard to prepare for the trip and have now completed their training in wordpress blogging, movie maker and basic research skills.
They have worked as a team to develop a survey as one of their research tools and will be using this during interviews with partner organisations in Belgium. However we welcome completion by any individuals or organisations involved in Eurolink 2011, whether taking part in Belgium, in the UK or online.
